Davis Memorial Hospital (DMH) is the only Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) missionary healthcare institution in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. It is located in a quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of Georgetown, the Capital. From its very small beginning, the hospital has grown into a well respected and much sought after health care provider in the country. DMH currently offers the following services:
- Dental Radiological
- Emergency care
- Nursing inpatient care
- HIV Care and Counseling.
The hospital’s mission is:
To promote the healing ministry of Jesus Christ through the use of efficient and responsive medical practices, a highly motivated and trained staff who respond to the needs of our community with courtesy, promoting always the whole-health concept, and continuously upgrading the quality and relevance of our service.
In spite of some limitations currently facing the institution, Davis Memorial Hospital is poised to take a leading role in the delivery of health care in Guyana. The business plan outlines some of the elements that would give this institution the stairway to attaining its ultimate goal of reaching a wide cross-section of the populace with a witness of quality and compassionate health care. We will engage in an expansion program which will see us building on our strengths and seeking to improve in less productive areas; introducing new services; re-emphasizing our missionary and compassionate heritage; and increasing our market share.
Good dental care is in high demand and we would be capitalizing on this by providing a range of services in this area by recruiting two full-time dentists. Neurology is not a common area of expertise offered even by other private health care facilities. Reintroducing this service at DMH will attract clients country-wide and expose them to our other services. We will be collaborating with Community Hospital in Trinidad to provide this service.
Our gynecological services are still benefiting from the halo effect of yesteryear and even without a resident specialist in this area we are able to attract a reasonable number of persons. We will be hiring an OB/GYN staff doctor to be able to attract more than double the number of patients we see in this specialty because currently there is only one other female specialist in the city and we have in place personnel to commence the pre and post natal clinics with the other related services.
